About M&M Sailplanes and Us

M&M Sailplanes is a “start-up” type limited liability company focused on design, development, manufacturing and further sale of an innovative non-certified UL gliders.

We also offer a wide range of services closely related to aviation: technical and airworthiness consulting, support in aircraft purchasing process, sailplane testing in flight, familiarization flights and demonstrations. Our experience is based on over 20 years of aviation engineering and longtime of advanced tests in flight as a flight test engineer and a pilot as well. For several years we have been participating and conducting comprehensive certifications for AMO, CAMO, POA and (A)DOA, both in GA as well as for airline. Our outstanding value is top gliding know-how as a pilot, coach (all levels of aerobatics), technicians and designers.

Almost 10 years of strong involvement into glider manufacturing, raising from ruins and bringing back on the market the „SZD” trade-mark allowed us to build very strong relationships all over the world, not only among the gliding community. The experience we gained, combined with engineering skills and passion, resulted in the decision to run our self-employed, independent business. All the time the market for UL sailplanes is seeking for the safe, smart and durable solutions. And our goal is to respond to these demands. Both to provide to all of us a fun and adventure but also safe flying!

Goal of the project

We are continuously working on the improvements to the existing prototype, to achieve finally demanded features of our sailplane. So far with our GOKO we have obtained:

  • ✈ excellent regular handling of the aircraft like for each typical aerodyne
  • ✈ light and proportional forces on controls and their high efficiency
  • ✈ great stability in straight flight and while circling
  • ✈ high exploitation safety due to conventional and proven solutions and strong wing design supported by struts
  • ✈ gentle stall characteristic, no spinning nor spiral diving tendencies at all strong undercarriage suitable for raw landing field
  • ✈ great cockpit ergonomics
  • ✈ wide spectrum of take-off ways from bungee, towing car, winch, or a trike up to an UL aircraft
  • ✈ suitability for first seps in gliding as well as advanced ridge and thermal flights.

To be introduced:

  • ✈ modified wing profile to go down with sinking
  • ✈ extended wing span to improve performance
  • ✈ self-launching system (as optional) – modern e-drive with pushing propeller.

Short story of the GOKO

The possibilities created in the year of 2018 at Allstar PZL Glider (APG) enhanced some of us to build something more than the certified gliders only. The idea of UL glider, to be flown without the SPL license, quickly found an interest of the company environment as well as the favor on the part of APG owner.
So, we run the project under APG but shortly after – since the APG abandoned the project – we continued and developed it as a private initiative only of two of us - Michal Ombach and Mieczysław Krysta.
The first take-offs of the newly built aircraft took place in December 2020 and January 2021 and convinced us the design is great, unique and worth of further work.
The GOKO is an acronym coming from the first letters of the family names of Mssr. Goryl, Oskwarek, Krysta & Ombach.

The sailplane has been found as nice and easy to handle. Its unique stability and gentle handling have been confirmed by the pilots and tests. The impressions from open cockpit flight, high safety and handling so similar to any of “serious” aircraft make this ship noteworthy and exceptional.
To continue, develop and promote the GOKO we have been taking plenty of activities, among others – almost 2 years efforts to fulfill the demands to get the EU subsidy for the project.

The first prototype has been flown from a few airfields. We have been testing it with a towing car, regular winch, gravity take-off and even the towing plane. All the results are very promising and invite us for the further steps. The second prototype is under construction.
